6th Street & San Jacinto, SxSW 2010

The urban world of SxSW(South by South West, the biggest music festival all over the U.S.) is very well known for its craziness and very talented musicians that play all over down town Austin. Every Single moment during the festival there is something interesting going on, the arts and the music rule, and the people is there to watch how the aritists are opening their souls and give the world a message that forever will stay in the mind of the lucky one who didn’t miss it.

This year, the Colombian Orchid Ballet left a powerful message on 6th Street & San Jacinto. Even Though it was a very cold day it seemed to be warm at the end. The Colombian coast, where the happiness of the Cumbia; the prettiness of the Bullerengue; and the craziness of the Marimonda took over.

The good thing about the streets is that you can keep walking if you don’t like what you see, this time nobody seemed to be in the mood of keep walking!

Thank you Austin for letting the streets be the stage for us to tell our story!

From Colombia to Chile

On February 27, 2010, an earthquake devastated central and southern Chile, with its epicenter in Cobquecura, BiobĂo Region, with a magnitude of 8.8 MW. The earthquake triggered a tsunami that affected a number of coastal towns from Valparaiso to the region of Araucania. Over 800 people lost their lives and 2 million more have been displaced by this disaster.
The Chilean community organized a fundraiser “Houston Ayuda a Chile” and the Colombian Orchid Ballet made a special performance in order to bring the hope back to Chile.

“The dance we will be performing is meant to renovate the spirits of the Chilean community. Our goal is to spread the message of hope of a new beginning, through a journey of the eastern regions of Colombia, popular for its magical sunrises.
A new day, a sunrise.”

Felipe Acosta, Director of the Colombian Orchid Ballet and Founder of Folklore Spectrum said,
“It is the Colombian Orchid Ballet’s mission to transform lives through culture,
music and folklore. Our hearts go out to our brothers and sisters in Chile and we are honored to provide the magic of dance at the Houston Ayuda A Chile fundraising event.”

He added: It was very touching for us while we were singing Si Vas para Chile, to see how the crowd in tears was hugging and singing”…

At the end we all scream out loud CHI, CHI, CHI, LE-LE-LE, VIVA CHILE!

We Love Colombia

The Colombian Orchid Ballet showcased the love, passion, and colors of Colombia through an Estampa Folclorica, which involved a quick display of dances from different regions of Colombia.

“It was very impressive to see the audience respond to the night of culture at the end when the d.j., who has a very broad cultural background, played the tracks of the performance and everybody seemed to know how to dance every single regional dance.”

The director of the ballet said:
“The party scene turned into a cultural response of the audience by dancing to
the traditional influences, just like it was happening in Colombia! It made me
so happy to see that our mission as cultural embassadors took place! ”

Thanks to everybody for your support!
